Make every mock paper a useful practice session

A mock paper helps your child practise applying ideas within a time limit. TutorBee offers Olympiad-style sample questions and timed mock practice, with feedback to help families decide what to study next. The aim is to understand the reasoning behind an answer and build confidence through regular practice.

Prepare before starting the timer

Choose the relevant exam enrollment and a practice paper suited to your child’s class. Set aside a quiet study period and check the time limit. For a new topic, begin with untimed questions so your child can understand the method before practising speed.

Review more than the score

After the mock, look at incorrect answers and unanswered questions separately. Ask whether each difficulty came from a concept, reading the question or running out of time. Work through the explanation and compare it with the study material before deciding what needs revision.

Turn mistakes into the next study session

Choose one or two topics from the review. Revisit the relevant explanations, practise related questions and ask your child to explain their approach. Try another timed paper when they feel ready, then compare how they managed their time and reasoning.

Try it together

A sample reasoning question to try together

Three boxes hold 4 pencils each. Five pencils are given away. How many pencils remain? This is an illustrative practice question, not a question from an actual Olympiad paper.

  1. Identify the starting total: 3 boxes × 4 pencils = 12 pencils.
  2. Decide which operation represents giving away 5 pencils: subtraction.
  3. Calculate 12 − 5 = 7 pencils remaining.
  4. Check the reasoning: 7 remaining + 5 given away = the original 12. Try a similar question with different numbers.

Questions from parents

Are mock papers the same as actual Olympiad papers?

No. TutorBee creates independent sample questions informed by past exam patterns and relevant study materials. They have no connection to actual exam questions and are not official papers, reproductions of past papers or predictions of an upcoming exam.

How often should my child attempt a mock paper?

Allow time to review each attempt and practise the topics it reveals before starting another mock. A routine that includes explanations, focused practice and timed attempts is more useful than completing papers without reviewing them.

Are Olympiad mock papers included in school plans?

Olympiad practice uses separate packs for the child’s exam enrollment. Review the available pack, usage allowance and validity before choosing it; school worksheet allowances are separate.
